Surf club granted $100,000

THE Ballina Lighthouse and Lismore Surf Life Saving Club received $100,000 from the State Government to help build the new clubhouse at Lighthouse Beach.

In announcing the funding, Ballina MP Don Page said the members of the Ballina Lighthouse and Lismore SLSC "do an outstanding job patrolling our beaches".

"This grant will assist the club in the construction of the long-awaited new clubhouse and patrol building at Lighthouse Beach in Ballina," Mr Page said.

"Our local volunteer lifeguards and junior lifesavers have continued their support for the club over a number of years, despite the lack of adequate facilities such as hot showers and change rooms."

Submissions on the development application for the clubhouse closed February 13.
