THE shocking destruction of Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 is believed to have claimed the lives of two retirees with strong Sunshine Coast connections.
Late this afternoon, they were confirmed to be Susan and Howard Horder.
The Horders were initially reported to be a Buderim couple but it now appears likely they are a Brisbane couple with close family in Buderim
The passengers were on the doomed flight carrying 298 passengers and crew as it travelled from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur.
The Horders are among nine Queenslanders and 28 Australians whose lives were lost after the Boeing jet was struck by a surface-to-air missile.
The Coast is also not the only Queensland regional area to be linked to the devastating crash, with Toowoomba doctor Roger Guard and his wife Jill also confirmed to be among the dead.
Premier Campbell Newman earlier today said Queenslanders must support one another in the face of this tragedy.
"Noone should grieve alone at this time," he said.
"Everyone should be coming together to support people who have been impacted."
