Suns insist Ablett is 'totally committed'

AFL: Coach Rodney Eade says his captain, Gary Ablett, remains as committed as ever to the Gold Coast Suns despite his no-show at the club's first official training session.

The two-time Brownlow Medallist had inquired about a trade back to Geelong last month, but was quickly rebuffed by the Suns.

Eade said Ablett would simply be enjoying an extended break due to a delayed honeymoon with wife Jordan, whom he wed in January, and start training next Monday.

"We're empathetic to Gary's situation,” Eade said. "We know he's got family (in Geelong) and there's things he's got to work through.

"(But) he's totally committed ... he's very comfortable with where he's at and he's looking forward to a big year.”

Eade said Ablett had been active in welcoming new recruits Jarryd Lyons, Pearce Hanley and Michael Barlow, and, in fact, spoke to at least two "to get them over the line”.

"He was part of the senior group that spoke to those players,” he said.
