TODAY let's take an in-depth look at the stunning 2014 BMW M4 Coupe.
This was quite a controversial car for BMW, as they decided to change the name of the car from the M3 Coupe to the M4. Many purists believed this was the end of world and that BMW could not do such a thing, but personally this wasn't what first bothered me.
I thought it made sense to have the 3-Series as a sedan and the 4-Series to be the coupe version.
The thing that bugged me was that the new M3/M4 range would feature a smaller, more efficient Inline-6 rather than retaining the 4.0-litre V8 from the previous generation. I had been in multiple previous generation E92 M3s before the M4 was released, and the sound that comes from the engine is just pure evil, it sends tingles down your spine.
A couple of months ago when I was in Los Angeles, I had the chance to go for a spin in the M4 and let me tell you, it does not disappoint.
The first thing you notice is the sheer speed of the thing, you put your foot down and the car propels itself forward... and then the turbos kick in.
The main problem I was worried about was the sound, but that quickly faded away once the engine was started.
The exhaust note is one of the best I've heard from a six cylinder, and the sound of the turbos spooling up is just plain awesome.
The M double-clutch transmission also works exceptionally well. In automatic mode it seems to know exactly when you want it to shift, and when using the paddles or the gear lever the shifts are almost instant.
The power is sent to the rear wheels and the kerb weight is rated at 1537 kilograms.
The M4 is capable of launching from 0-100 kilometres per hour in just 4.1 seconds, and it will keep accelerating until it reaches its electronically limited top speed of 250 kilometres per hour (155 miles per hour).
You can currently purchase a 2014 BMW M4 for around $160,000 AUD plus on-road costs.
