Banner created by students will lead Anzac parade
A BANNER created by Alstonville High School students will take pride of place at the lead of this year's milestone Anzac Day parade in the village.
This year marks the centenary of the Gallipoli landings on April 25, 1915, while the banner covers the centenary of the First World War, from 1914-1918.
Alstonville RSL Sub-Branch approached the school a year ago about creating the banner as a way of increasing school involvement in this historic march.
The Alstonville parade is generally well supported by students.
The school's art teacher, Ian Roberts, said Years 10 and 11 designed the 5m by 1m banner with inspiration from internet research.
Created using exterior house paint, the banner features iconic images of troops and one of the poppies has images representing the three services - army, navy and air force.
Students from the school will carry the banner on Anzac Day.
