Stoyle pumped for second crack

WITH a successful 2011 under her belt, Sunshine Coast gun Dimity Stoyle says she is a little bit older, a little bit wiser and has her sights firmly set on earning an ASP Women's World Tour berth.

Stoyle, from Buderim, will start her second World Qualifying Tour campaign next week at the six-star Australian Open of Surfing at Manly.

The 20-year-old missed out on this year's world tour by a slim margin. Had she managed to produce a handful more good results and climb an extra four spots on the world rankings, she would have found herself in the big time this year.

Still her results speak for themselves - four quarter-finals on the qualifying circuit last year and 10th on the world rankings.

Stoyle admitted there were a couple of occasions over the past 12 months when she let her nerves get the better of her.

However, she said she was better for the experience and excited about the year ahead.

"Last year was a really good year," she said. "I got to go to a lot of places. I got some good results.

"This year I'm in the same spot, but I'm more experienced and a little bit better for it."

Stoyle said she was still kicking herself about being beaten by eventual winner Alessa Quizon in the third round of the Billabong ASP World Junior last month.

Stoyle will not be eligible for next year's world junior title, so sees last month's loss as a chance gone begging - having fought so hard to be within striking distance going into the final round.

Not one to dwell, however, she said she would be pouring all her energies into making next year's world tour.

"I was really disappointed with how I went in the world juniors," she said.

"I had that heat - I was unlucky. But now I'm focusing on qualifying."

COOLUM star Julian Wilson will start his 2012 campaign today at the four-star ASP Break Burleigh Pro on the Gold Coast.

The world No.9 will be joined at the event by fellow Sunshine Coast surfers Chris Friend, Noah Lane and Kelly Norris.
