Stormy may dump lawyer after abuse claims

Stormy Daniels has told that she will ditch her lawyer, Michael Avenatti-if the allegations against him of domestic violence are true.

"These are serious and obviously very troubling allegations but right now that is all they are: allegations," Daniels told reporter Olivia Nuzzi. "We should all reserve judgement until the investigation-an investigation Michael has said he welcomes-is complete, and that's what I'm going to do.

"But of course I do not condone violence against women and if these allegations prove true, I will be seeking new representation," she added.

It comes after Alyssa Milano dumped her former #MeToo ally Avenatti after reports that he was arrested in Los Angeles for domestic violence.

"Totally disgusting," the actor tweeted. "And before anyone asks me, yes, I'm disavowing Avenatti. I do not care what side he's on. #Basta"

Milano and Avenatti appeared together for a protest against US President Donald Trump outside the White House in July.

According to the New York Post, Avenatti, a lawyer for Mr Trump's alleged ex-mistress, Stormy Daniels, was arrested by the LAPD on suspicion of domestic violence on Wednesday.

He allegedly left an unidentified woman's face "swollen and bruised," according to gossip website TMZ.

Avenatti has denied allegations of domestic violence through his law firm after his arrest near his ritzy Los Angeles skyscraper apartment.

"I have never struck a woman, I never will strike a woman," Avenatti told reporters after being booked and posting $50,000 bail ($A69,000).

Avenatti claims the woman struck him first during an altercation, according to The Daily Mail.

hill be exonerated.

Police didn't immediately disclose details about the arrest incident but Officer Tony Im, an LAPD spokesman, said the victim has visible injuries.

Earlier, Avenatti released a statement through his law firm slamming the allegation as "completely bogus" and orchestrated to harm his reputation.

Avenatti became famous representing Daniels, the porn actor who alleges she had an affair with Donald Trump in 2006 and has sued to invalidate the confidentiality agreement she signed days before the 2016 presidential election that prevents her discussing it.

Daniels also sued Mr Trump and his personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, alleging defamation.

Avenatti, who has said he's mulling a 2020 presidential run, pursued the president and those close to him relentlessly for months, taunting Mr Trump in interviews and baiting him and his lawyers in tweets.

The Vermont Democratic Party cancelled events planned for Friday and Saturday, where Avenatti was scheduled to speak, and is refunding ticket sales.

But Avenatti's first wife, Christine Avenatti Carlin, has come to his defence, tweeting "Please wait for facts. He does not hit women" and releasing a statement via Twitter:

Initially, TMZ reported that Avenatti's estranged wife Lisa Storie-Avenatti was the woman involved in the intimate partner violence incident but she also released a statement through her lawyers saying that was not true.
