OPINION: Staff keep learning

ENCOURAGING and supporting employees to step outside their comfort zone and upskill through new qualifications is a great way to retain staff and keep them challenged.

When employees Cathy Cash and Christine Franklin graduate at the CQUniversity Mackay graduation ceremony on Thursday, they will be celebrating 25 years working at CQUniversity (formerly CQ TAFE).

During this time, they've had the chance to upskill and experience a range of different jobs. Ms Cash and Ms Franklin are now employed within the contract services team.

Cathy began as a trainee at CQ TAFE (formerly known as Mackay TAFE) and Christine completed her traineeship with Training Services before commencing with Mackay TAFE in 1991.

The colleagues have seen large and small changes to the organisation since that time, allowing them to learn new systems and processes, as well as making them resilient to transformations within the workplace.

Ms Cash has had over eight different roles within the past 25 years across a variety of departments. She will graduate with a Diploma of Management.

Ms Franklin has also had the chance to earn a Certificate IV in Business Administration, Diploma of Management and has now completed a Diploma of Business.

The training opportunities have enabled Ms Cash and Ms Franklin to have a long and rewarding career with CQUniversity and one I hope will continue. I look forward to seeing them, and other colleagues, graduate this week.
