Two new sports fields, hall completed at Ballina Heights
BALLINA has two new sports fields.
The developers of the Ballina Heights Estate at Cumbalum have officially handed over two sports fields and an associated community hall and car park to Ballina Shire Council.
The Ballina Catholic Parish and Vixsun Pty Ltd were both involved in the development of the estate on the northern side of Ballina.
Chairman of the Ballina Catholic Parish finance council, Bryan Marriott, said the dedication of the fields to the council was "a great day for Ballina".
The major 150m diameter oval has lights and viewing mounds with shade trees and a children's playground, while the community hall - or clubhouse - is fully equipped and has storage facilities.
The total cost of the field, clubhouse, parking, lighting and other works was $7.2m.
The fields were a requirement in the development consent for the Ballina Heights Estate.
Mr Marriott said the construction of the smaller field, though, was well ahead of the required deadline.
Ballina Shire Council's civil services group manager John Truman has invited submissions from sporting clubs wanting to use the fields and is working through them.
