EDITORIAL: Something’s gotta give, and soon

IN THE same week as a rate rise was announced, the news that car registration is also due to go up was met with a fair bit of anger from local residents.

People let out their frustrations on the NewsMail's Facebook page, with comments such as: "They must think we all have a money tree in our backyards, we already have the highest rego in the country" and "Wasn't that big increase we had when Bligh was premier supposed to be for only 1 year? Why is it still here!!".

And one particularly aggrieved commenter wrote: "Rego up, council rates up, cost of living up. Why don't we all just work for the government and give them our wages and they give us an allowance. When will it stop."

Although I have to agree with him.

Electricity prices are out of control (even with solar panels), food isn't getting any cheaper and for a lot of people there are no such things as luxuries.

And while some might consider a car a luxury, there are many that really can't do without one.

Something's gotta give, it can't be take, take, take, all the time.
