SOCCEROOS goalkeeper Mathew Ryan has finally ended his hellish time with fallen Spanish giants Valencia, with a temporary move back to Belgium confirmed.

Ryan, who had been in hot demand across Spain and the country he used to ply his trade in, rejected a move to Anderlecht in order join KRC Genk until the end of the season.

The 24-year-old, who made just two league starts for Valencia this season, is expected to make his Genk debut on Wednesday (AEST) at home to KV Okstende.

Ryan had been frozen out at La Liga strugglers Valencia, falling down to third in the pecking order after making just 10 league appearances in his 18 months at the club since joining from Club Brugge.

He was released to join KRC Genk after lengthy negotiations between Ryan's agent Mikkel Beck and Valencia chiefs.

"We think this is a good move for Maty," Beck said.

"Genk are in the semi-final of the cup, they are still in the Europa League and with Maty in the team can hopefully go on to gain a Play-off 1 spot in the league."

Ryan had been linked with a move to Brugge's rivals Anderlecht - and also a return to his former club. Instead, an injury to Genk's first-choice goalkeeper Marco Bizot, which will keep him out for six weeks, has made the Socceroo's decision easy.

Five suitors had previously been linked, with Spanish sides Leganes, Granada and Osasuna all showing interest in the former Central Coast Mariners shotstopper.

KAA Gent was another Belgian side linked as Ryan found himself only on the bench for cup games, and out of the squad altogether for Valencia in La Liga.
