A SICKENING attack on hospital security guards has been captured on CCTV at a Queensland hospital.
The CCTV footage, released by the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital, shows two male security guards escorting a man out of the building, News Corp reports.
The man turns violent and lashes out at the security officers, while frightened nurses try to help.
Chief Executive of Metro North Hospital Ken Whelan said more than 3000 frontline Queensland healthcare workers are assaulted on the job each year.
"We have zero tolerance when it comes to violence against healthcare workers," Mr Whelan said.
"They are the backbone of our community."
"That's why we are leading the state-wide response to tackle this important issue."
The Occupational Violence Oversight Committee, initiated by the state government earlier this year, has hired more security officers, rolled out body-worn cameras and voice activated duress alarms in a bid to curb the violence against healthcare workers.
