Bronze for Brittany Elmslie

Sunshine Coast swimmer Brittany Elmslie last night claimed bronze in the 200m freestyle at the Australian Championships.

Elmslie finished in 1 min 57.64 secs, just behind Emma McKeon and Bronte Barratt.

McKeon won the race in an Australian record time of 1:55.68, under a second ahead of Barratt.

Olympic gold medallist Elmslie finished just outside the Commonwealth Games A-qualifying mark of 1:56.76.

McKeon earned a spot on the Glasgow Games team minutes after her brother David (400m winner) did the same.

"It's pretty exciting, it's just great to be on the Commonwealth Games team with my brother," McKeon said.

"My mum and my uncle did the same thing (competed at the Commonwealth Games).

"It's pretty special for the family."

Elmslie later finished second in her 100m butterfly to qualify third fastest for tonight's finals.

Sunshine Coast young guns Tianni Gilmour and Chelsea Gubecka proved they were stars of the future with strong showings in the 400m IM final.

Pelican Waters' Gilmour and Kawana Waters' Gubecka finished fifth and sixth respectively behind winner Keryn McMaster.

Gilmour touched the wall in 4:46.88, just over seven seconds off the pace, while Gubecka finished in 4:49.14.

Pelican Waters' Tessa Wallace qualified seventh fastest for tonight's 50m breaststroke final.
