My Kitchen Rules siblings look at life beyond television

FORGET the childhood dream of being a rock star with a hit album, or a movie star gracing the red carpet.

All Sunshine Coast brother-and-sister team Jake and Elle Harrison have ever dreamt about is opening a bistro and releasing a cookbook.

And that is all poised to become a reality once My Kitchen Rules ends.

While they are contractually prohibited from publicising their projects on social media until the show wraps up on TV, Elle is bursting with excitement about sharing their plans with viewers and fans who have shown the pair overwhelming support.

"We've always had a collection of recipes which we are constantly adding to," the bubbly redhead said.

"We probably have enough for 10 cookbooks in the cupboard."

Their first cookbook will be aimed at Gen Y and feature budget-friendly entertaining ideas.

"So many people in Gen Y don't know how to cook and they can't afford fancy ingredients, so I think this will be really useful," Elle said.

Also in the pipeline is their own range of ice-cream.

Their basil ice-cream and fig and coffee creation caused such a buzz on the hit TV show that the two want to share their taste sensations with a wider audience.

"We wanted something fun and delicious and, living on the Sunshine Coast, ice-cream is perfect," Elle said.

But don't expect any of your traditional choc-chip or vanilla flavours. "These are projects we have always dreamt of but could never have achieved without MKR and it has just given us the guts to go out and do it," Elle said.

Elle warns viewers will be blown away at the massive twist which is coming up when the series returns on Monday at 7.30pm.

"It was a rollercoaster ride," she said.

"They have really gone all out this series."
