Noosa beach cleared due to shark sightings

SWIMMERS were cleared from the surf at Noosa main beach yesterday after sightings of two hammerhead sharks.

Noosa lifesavers responded swiftly to reports of the small sharks and ordered swimmers, stand-up paddle boarders, kayakers and nippers from the water at about 10am.

They carried out a sweep of the area and declared it safe for people to return to the water shortly after.

In other marine news a whiting trawler became an unexpected attraction for holidaymakers after running aground on Teewah beach late on Saturday night.

The vessel, Caledon Pearl, stranded near the Freshwater camp and stayed stuck fast in a salvage attempt yesterday afternoon.
