'Severe' quake rocks Wellington again

WELLINGTON has been rocked  by another severe earthquake overnight.

Earthquake monitoring site GeoNet reported a  magnitude 5.4 tremor struck 20km east of Seddon at 1.07am, at a depth of 12km.

More than 1800 people have reported feeling the quake on the GeoNet website.

Since the early morning quake, there have been a number of tremors, including one at magnitude 3.5 at 2.35am.

The latest reported activity was at 7.30am.

The police and fire services said there were no immediate reports of damage following the 5.4 quake.
