Search continues for pair who went missing from cruise ship

A MASSIVE air and sea search was under way on Thursday night for a couple who went missing from a cruise ship on the NSW mid north coast.

The 30-year-old man and 26-year-old woman were believed to have gone overboard off the coast near Forster.

Staff on the Carnival Spirit discovered the pair missing when the ship docked at Sydney's Overseas Passenger Terminal on Thursday morning but CCTV footage revealed they had left the ship about 8.50pm Wednesday.

Rescue crews were searching an area about 60nm east of Forster.

A police spokesperson said officers were investigating the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of the pair and, in the early stages, were focussed on the search efforts.
