Seagulls take third place

THE McGrath Ballina Seagulls defeated the Lower Clarence Magpies 58-12 at Kingsford Smith Park on Sunday in the final round of the Northern Rivers Regional Rugby League 2010 premiership.


The win means the Seagulls finish in third place and will now play Northern United next Sunday at Crozier Oval, Lismore.


The Seagulls jumped led 6.0 after three minutes.


A dropped ball whilst attacking the Magpies line saw a runaway try to the visitors.


The first half featured lots of dropped ball, and it was only late in the half that the Seagulls began to get on top, and they led 18-6 at half-time.


After the break, the Seagulls came out firing and began to blow the Magpies off the park.


With Andrew Battese and Ben Crawford leading the way, the Seagulls ran in a further seven tries to one.


Best for the Seagulls were Andrew Battese, Jason Clarke, Greg Ryan, Ben Crawford and Cam Copeland.


Try scorers for the Seagulls were Dean Cameron 2, Ben Crawford 2, Dan Gibson, Chris Dooley, Paul O’Neill, Damian Sironen, Rob Miles and Dane Clarke.  Andrew Battese kicked 7 goals and Rob Miles 2 goals.


The Wallace & Co sponsored Under-18s also had a big win, defeating Lower Clarence Magpies 54-10.


This win clinched third place, so they will now play Cudgen on Sunday at Crozier Oval, with kick-off at 11.30am.


Try scorers for the Seagulls were Alex Grant 2, Nikko Roberts 2, Nathan Aubusson 2, Nick Krause, Dylan Wilson, Matt Nean and Max Hicks. Alex Grant, Dylan Wilson and Nikko Roberts each kicked 2 goals and Nathan Aubusson 1 goal.
