Sea Eagles prepare for the worst with Trbojevic injury

TOM Trbojevic's season could be over.

The young fullback injured his knee and ankle as his Sea Eagles were run down by Brisbane in a second-half comeback at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday night.

He will receive scans when the team arrives back in Sydney but coach Trent Barrett revealed in the post-match press conference Trbojevic's year could be done.

"He could be gone for the year, I don't know,” Barrett said.

In the 66th minute Broncos hooker Andrew McCullough skied a spiral kick which Trbojevic allowed to bounce before leaping off the ground to catch it.

Broncos chaser David Mead came charging through and collected Trbojevic in the air - legally - and the young Manly fullback came down awkwardly on his left knee.

As he lay in pain the Broncos collected the loose ball and scored to steal a lead the Sea Eagles had held for the entire game.

Barrett was not happy with the way Trbojevic was taken out, although it was a legal play as the ball had bounced.

"He's pretty badly hurt, Tommy. If it's on the full and he's in the air that's a penalty and we probably win,” Barrett said.

"It's dangerous.

"Not only did it cost us the game but it cost us one of our best players.”

The 20-year old talent was believed to be on the verge of making his State of Origin debut for NSW in game one at the end of this month.
