Scottish know how to save with hosting of Games

HOSTING the Commonwealth Games will cost Scotland about $A1.05 billion, a pittance compared to the $15 billion rice tag for the recent World Cup in Brazil, and the estimated $50 billion-plus Russia shelled out on this year's Summer Olympics.

Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond told reporters the cost had ensured ticket prices would be affordable - the average entry price to more than two-thirds of the events will be $45.

Tickets to the swimming, gymnastics, judo and triathlon had all sold out.
