School’s plea to motorists

MOTORISTS travelling on Fox St in Ballina are urged to slow down for the sake of some children.

Biala Special School last week installed a sign at the front of the school asking drivers to slow down, and it will remain in place this week.

School principal Bhavni Stewart said it was common to see motorists speeding along the 50kmh stretch of road, which is a 40kmh zone from 8-9.30am and 2.30-4pm.

"We see cars flying past here way too quickly," she said.

Biala Special School has 23 children with disabilities enrolled.

As part of their schooling, the children are taken across the road to the nearby shopping centres to learn life skills.

Fox Street Community Preschool is also nearby.

"We don't want to stop students from going to the shops," Ms Stewart said.
