Santos chief calls for job creation as clouds gather

A SANTOS senior executive has appealed to companies investing in LNG technology to focus on job creation, as clouds gather over the sector in Western Australia.

John Anderson, who heads the oil and gas company in WA and the NT, said companies investing in the sector needed to maximise Australian jobs in all projects.

Santos is a partner in the GLNG project on Curtis Island.

He said the Browse Basin, off the WA coast, was pivotal to the nation's future gas production, with global demand for LNG tipped to double within 17 years.

Woodside's $45-billion joint venture recently shelved its James Price Point project due to rising costs but is now leaning towards "floating" LNG (FLNG).
