Burgess and Te'o could collide in rugby match-up

BIG-hitting South Sydney team-mates Sam Burgess and Ben Te'o could collide on the rugby union field next year if their respective new teams qualify for the European Champions Cup.

Te'o finally confirmed reports he is jumping codes with Irish club Leinster announcing they've secured the punishing utility as a potential centre signing for the Pro-12 Cup.

Burgess is leaving Redfern next season to play for English club Bath, with speculation he too could be converted into a centre with the World Cup in mind.

While it is a longshot, the pair could find itself going head-to-head in the end-of-year European Rugby Cup which replaces the Heineken Cup next year.

Teams from England (six), France (six) and seven from Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Italy and one team which gains entry through a playoff contest the Cup.

Should Bath and Leinster make it through and draw the same pool, Burgess and Te'o could find themselves as enemies 12 months after being teammates trying to win the NRL premiership.

"I'm looking forward to the challenge of making the transition to a sport I played as a kid and living in a new country once this season is over," said the hard-running, hard-hitting Te'o who recently celebrated his 150th NRL game with his third club.

Te'o, 27, will have to surrender his Queensland State of Origin jumper after being involved in two of the Maroons record eight straight series wins over NSW, a run that came to an end earlier this years when the Blues claimed thir first win since 2005 under Laurie Daley.

Leinster coach Matt O'Connor, who played one Test for the Wallabies and also was a code jumper, said he was excited about Te'o's potential.

"He is a dynamic and explosive ball carrier and that physicality will enhance our offering both in attack and in our defence.

"I think the Leinster supporters are going to like what they see."
