Rosebank ninja assassin battles Wolverine, put up for award
IF WINNING world titles wasn't enough, Rosebank local Jack Field has taken his motorcycling skills to the next level, going head to head with Wolverine.
And in the process he was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award.
For three months Mr Field took on the role of a motorcycle-riding ninja assassin in the 2013 X-men film, The Wolverine.
He spent his days jumping across 10m high fake snow-covered roofs on his motorcycle, leaping over cars and getting kicked off his bike by Wolverine.
"There's one scene where I actually do a back-flip and smack Hugh Jackman in the face with my wheel," Mr Field said.
"That was a bit scary for me but it was a lot of fun and he's a really cool guy."
Mr Field managed to pull off the stunt flawlessly, narrowly missing Hugh's face by a few centimetres.
It took three weeks to complete the fight scene, which only made it to the extended cut version of the film.
Mr Field's partner, Rhianna Buchanan, was the stunt double for Rila Fukushima who plays the deadly assassin and precognitive mutant Yukio.
Her role on set involved riding Yukio's Ducati Diavel and driving Wolverine around in an Audi R8.
"Jumping on the Ducati was no problem for me because I've grown up with motorcycles and always ridden anything that's been put in front of me," she said.
"It was really interesting working with some of the actors and even the stunt guys we got to meet, we just couldn't believe how humble the guys were and how supportive they all were."
And yes, they said Hugh Jackman really is as nice as everyone says he is.
"He's just an incredibly talented and humble man," Ms Buchanan said.
When the couple returned home they were surprised to discovered two Screen Actors Guild Award nominations on their doorstep.
"When we got home and saw it there we thought that's awesome," Mr Field said.
Okay, so he's not really a ninja, but Jack Field's still pretty badass - here's why:
- He holds the world record for lowest motorcycle backflip off a 30cm kicker
- He was the 2010 World Number One Freestlye Trials Rider
- He holds the world record for the biggest backflip on a trials motorcycle at 23m
- He founded Flair Action Sports which now employs 10 riders who perform at events both nationally and internationally
- He's performed stunts for several television commercials
