Rory McIlroy on top of the world after Bridgestone win

RORY McIlroy has reclaimed the world No.1 ranking from Aussie Adam Scott after winning the WGC Bridgestone Invitational in Ohio by two shots from Spain's Sergio Garcia.

McIlroy (pictured) shot a final round four-under par 66 to finish on 15-under. Australia's Marc Leishman was three strokes back in third place.

Scott, who held the No.1 ranking for 11 weeks, dropped down one spot after shooting a one-over par 71 in the final round to finish in a tie for eighth at seven-under.

McIlroy is the $5.50 favourite with to win this week's final major of the year, the $A10.7 million US PGA Championship in Louisville, Kentucky.

Meanwhile, Aussie Geoff Ogilvy earned a place in the PGA field by winning the Barracuda Championship in Reno by five points from American Justin Hicks under the modified stableford format. The win secured Ogilvy's place in the FedEx Cup playoffs beginning on August 21.
