Rolling start for Youth Week with free skateboard workshops

KIDS can get along to free skateboarding workshops in Lennox Head and Ballina during the upcoming National Youth Week.

The first will be held at the Lennox skatepark on April 9, from 1.30-4pm, which will be followed up at the Ballina skate park on April 17, with a workshop from 10am-12.30pm and a competition from 1.30-4pm, too.

Local skating professional Dylan McNamara, from Own Life, will be co-ordinating the skating events, with Ballina's Scott Standley giving tips.

Eloise Wood, co-ordinator of the Ballina Youth Week activities, said the events were aimed at celebrating "how much youth has to give, not just to this moment, but to the future of the area as a whole".

The theme for youth week is "It starts with us".

"The key focus for this year is to capture several messages on the value of youth as well as pride in our local areas and environment," she said.

The Lennox event has been supported by the Lennox Head Residents Association and their Keep Australia Beautiful campaign.

Margaret Shaw, from the residents association, said last year the group applied for a NSW grant to tackle litter reduction as wellas to raise awareness in Lennox.

National Youth Week is celebrated between April 10-19.
