Fleet Hire chosen as national role model for small business
MAROOCHYDORE business Fleet Hire has been chosen by the Commonwealth Bank of Australia's business banking division as a small business role model.
Believed to be the only Sunshine Coast business chosen, it will now feature in newspaper advertising and a video that will be used for in-house training.
"We've worked with the bank for the last 10 years and I guess they chose us because of our history and the good credit rating we've built up," manager Quintin Benning said.
Fleet Hire opened on Aerodrome Rd in May 2011, acquiring Come & Go Car Rentals' 27 vehicles. Today, the business employs seven, has more than 90 vehicles and an agent in Noosa.
It also handles bookings for a handful of other local car rental companies and has just placed an order for $25,000 worth of trailers due at the end of this month.
"We have grown rapidly and we are still growing quite fast," Mr Benning said.
"We focus hard on our commercial rentals like utes, trailers and vans.
"There are always people moving and always tradies looking for utes.
"We have a long-term package they can take if they don't want to buy their own vehicle.
"In the last two years, I have noticed the tourism side of things has dropped significantly, so that's why we have refocused to commercial."
Mr Benning said the keys to his success were hard work, dedication, communication and great staff.
He said research and knowledge of competitors was key in a very crowded industry like his.
"We try and offer a better service, with better quality vehicles and make it hassle- free.
"We want to build great relationships with people, especially as two years ago, Fleet Hire was a brand new name.
"But we have two ladies who do marketing for us; one does businesses and one does resorts, just to build those bonds."
The local business is linked to the South African Fleet Hire company. Mr Benning said there are plans to open a second outlet in Gladstone next year.
