RIO 2016: Fox makes it through to semis

CANOEING: There was a scare for London Olympics silver medallist Jessica Fox but the Aussies is safely through to the K1 slalom semi-finals at the Rio Olympics.

Fox overcame a nervous first run of 107.88 seconds in the kayaking at the Whitewater Stadium in Deodoro to make the semis on Friday morning (AEST).

Her first-run time would have got her through but she improved it vastly on her second run, powering down the course to finish second fastest on 99.51.

"To be honest, I thought I'd qualified before my run but I wasn't 100% sure," Fox said.

"From the start (of the second run) I felt free, I felt good, and the run really flowed well.

"Coming into that last move, where I came unstuck in that first run, I just wanted to make sure I slowed it down and stayed in control."

Only Stefanie Horn (99.07) from Italy qualified faster for the semis, where the top 10 qualifiers will go through to the final, due off at 4am on Friday (AEST).
