RIO 2016: Usain Bolt cruises into Olympic 100m final

ATHLETICS: Usain Bolt has cruised into the Olympic 100m final with a semi-final win in Rio.

Bolt got off to a slow start in semi-final two but came through the field to finish in 9.84 seconds, easing up as he crossed the line.

The Beijing 2008 and London 2012 champion qualified fastest for the final ahead of Canadian Andre De Grasse (9.92) after they completed the quickest semi-final.

American Justin Gatlin was third fastest qualifier after he finished the third semi-final in 9.94. Jamaican Yohan Blake qualified for the final with a second-place finish in 10.01.

Frenchman Jimmy Vicaut won the first semi-final in 9.95.

The rest of the field is made up of Ben Youssef Meite (9.97), who set a national record for Ivory Coast, South African Akani Simbine (9.98) and Great Britain's Chijindu Ujah (10.01).
