Flames reportedly engulf heavy machinery on worksite
A GAS fire has engulfed the Northern Sydney suburb of Neutral Bay in a thick cloud of smoke.
About 7.20am emergency services responded to reports of a gas leak on Aubin Street, near the intersection of Ben Boyd Road.
Police report machinery has caught fire during the operation to contain the gas leak.
Sources had earlier reported a truck working on site cut a gas pipe sparking the blaze.
Police have had to evacuate three houses which were near the engulfed work site.
The occupants of these houses are not injured. The firefighting operation continues. Localised traffic diversions are in place.
Drivers have been told to avoid the area, with heavy traffic already building up.
More to come.
