Remembrance Day: Honouring our fallen soldiers
FOR Shirley's Flowers Ballina Florist on River Street in Ballina this is a busy time of the year as organisations and community groups request flowers for the Remembrance Day Service that is held annually to commemorate those fallen soldiers who died fighting for Australia.
Shirley's Flowers manager Nola Murray said they had created 30 wreaths in preparation for the service to be held today at 11am.
Each wreaths takes approximately 40 minutes to make and requires around 50 flowers to construct.
The flowers are chopped off the stems and then arranged in an oasis.
The Alstonville Sub Branch of the RSL will be conducting a Memorial Service in Elizabeth Ann Brown Park with patrons assembling at 10.30am and commencing with the Memorial Service and a minute's silence at 11am.
The Ballina Sub Branch service will start at 10.45am at the Memorial Park in Grand Street at Ballina.
A Ballina High student will give a commemorative address on the morning.
