Ref Gillett given another chance at grand final

REFEREE Jarred Gillett will cross paths with striker Besart Berisha yet again in another A-League grand final, when the Victory hosts Sydney FC at AAMI Park in Sunday's finale.

Gillett awarded Berisha - when he was at Brisbane - a controversial penalty in the dying seconds of the 2011/12 grand final, the Roar beating Perth in the championship decider as a result.

Gillett is a referee on the rise - his appointment comes after he was crowned the A-League 2014/15 Referee of the Year.

The 28-year-old also won the Referee of the Year award in the 2011/12 season.

"From our assessors, he was the most consistent referee in all areas and a worthy appointment to the biggest match of the season," Football Federation Australia director of referees Ben Wilson said.

Victory attacker Archie Thompson has the most overall goals (14) in Sydney FC v Victory games, from 27 head-to-head clashes.
