Rebels pass on O’Connor

MELBOURNE Rebels chief executive Rob Clarke has praised James O'Connor, despite revealing the Wallaby would not be given a new contract at the club next season.

A release on the club's website said the club "declined the opportunity to offer Wallabies flyhalf James O'Connor a further contract beyond the 2013 season".

In the release, Clarke added: "I would like to acknowledge the role James has played in helping the Rebels gain traction in the very competitive sporting landscape in Melbourne," Clarke said.

O'Connor joined the Rebels from the Western Force at the start of last season, but injuries and Wallaby commitments restricted him to just 20 games for the Melbourne franchise.
