All this damage for some smokes and some cash

A DETERMINED thief reversed multiple times into the front doors of BP Lindendale before stealing cigarettes and cash in a ram raid on Monday morning.

Lismore police Inspector Doug Conners said at about 3am a maroon 1998 model Hyundai Excel was stolen from an address in Brewers Close at Wollongbar.

"The car was driven by the offender to the BP service station at Lindendale on the Bruxner Highway," he said.

"The offender reversed a number of times into the main doors of the service station until they buckled and smashed."

Insp Conners said the driver was captured on CCTV footage during the incident.

"The driver was observed on CCTV to enter the service station and steal a large quantity of cigarettes and a small amount of cash."

Despite the service station having a liquor licence, no alcohol was stolen.

"CCTV footage showed the driver get back into the car and flee the scene," Insp Conners said.

Insp Conners said the vehicle was found by police within two hours of being stolen.

"The vehicle was found by police at about 5am on Pine St at Wardell, burned out."

Crime scene officers examined the service station yesterday morning and glaziers repaired the smashed front doors of the business.

"Police are waiting to obtain the CCTV footage of the incident so they can attempt to identify the offender," Insp Conners said.

Anyone with any information about the ram raid is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
