Rally Australia's impact to be revealed

MORE than 18 months after it was held, the city will learn about the impact the World Rally Championship had on the local economy.

Tonight's Coffs Harbour City Council meeting, brought forward a day due to Easter, will include parts of a review of a NSW Government economic impact report for the 2011 WRC Event.

The extract from the report provided by Rally Australia states having the best rally car drivers in the world race on the Coffs Coast had a net economic impact of $14,828,691.

The full report is yet to be released publicly by the NSW Government but councillors have been able to see confidential sections within it.

Details which are public knowledge include the event achieving an international television audience of 56 million viewers.

Councillors will also tonight consider approving a development application for lands adjoining and associated with the Bonville Golf Resort.

The application process has spanned more than four years due to the preparation of local environment plans for the area of approximately 115 hectares.

The proposal includes 318 dwelling houses as well a total of 167 units for housing or tourist accommodation.

There is also scope in the application for parcels of land on North Bonville Rd, Cassidys Rd and Pine Creek Way to be developed for shops and business premises which are currently limited by Clause 24 of Coffs Harbour City Local Environmental Plan.
