The rains are here! Downpours to wash away monthly totals
IT IS going to be a watery end to winter, as a sprawling storm system moves over Queensland, delivering rains to the southern half of the state from today until at least Thursday.
The heaviest rains will be in the state's west tomorrow as an upper system scatters downpours from Mt Isa to Warwick.
That will extend to the state's south-east, including the Sunshine Coast, Gympie, Toowoomba and Darling Downs on Wednesday.
While the forecast rainfall of up to 40mm may not sound enormous, if it hits as predicted in the western towns of Boulia, Windora and Charleville, the region will exceed its monthly rainfall numbers in a single day.
Mackay, Rockhampton, Gladstone, Bundaberg and Fraser Coast are also in for some reasonable showers tomorrow.

On Wednesday, between 20-40mm of rain is forecast from south of Rockhampton, becoming heavier as you travel south.
The Sunshine Coast and Toowoomba will be closer to the maximum, while from Rockhampton to the Fraser Coast, expect closer to 20mm.
Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Michael Paech said the rain in "unseasonale" but will be "good, late season rain" for most of areas, particularly appreciated by the farmers in the west.
