Rain, rain’s going away as fast as it arrived

DON'T get used to that wet stuff coming out of the sky - the rainfall we've had on the Northern Rivers over the past couple of days isn't here to stay.

In the 24 hours up until 4pm yesterday, some good rainfall was recorded at Bangalow (23mm), Lennox Head (14mm) and Ballina (9.6mm).

It's been a welcome change for our local sports fields and gardens, which have suffered under recent dry conditions.

Tim Hughes, 11, of the Northern Star hockey club, was especially pleased to see yesterday's rain. His club relies on the rain to fill the water tanks used to spray down Astroturf before games at Hepburn Hockey Field. It also meant he got to be in this fun photo shoot with Northern Star photographer Marc Stapelberg.

You'll be able to see more of this photo series on The Northern Star's website, http://www.northernstar.com.au, later today.
