Queensland coach happy Wallace can play

QUEENSLAND coach Kevin Walters has applauded the judiciary's decision to allow Jarrod Wallace to play in Origin II, saying the Titans enforcer will bring the muscle the Maroons desperately need.

Wallace was let off at the judiciary last night for a shoulder charge on Warriors centre Blake Ayshford, with the decision allowing him to make his Queensland debut next Wednesday.

It had been a nervous wait not just for Wallace, but also for the Maroons team who were beaten through the middle by the Blues forward pack in Game One.

Walters said he watched the news trickle in from the judiciary last night and was relieved to see they had made a "sensible decision”.

He said Wallace was selected in the Queensland side due to the enormous workload he has put in for the Gold Coast this year, which will be needed to against the NSW pack.

"I think it would have been pretty unfair for him to miss an Origin match - his debut for that matter - for the incident,” Walters said.

"The judiciary obviously got it right and it was a sensible decision too.

"His form for the Titans has been very good with his workload. His metres have been valuable and defensively he's a real strong point for the Titans.

"It's no secret that's where we fell away in Game One, through our middle.”

The Maroons spent the morning meeting and greeting fans in Mackay for their annual fan day.

Wallace was absent from the event after having to fly back from Sydney late last night.

Canberra forward Josh Papalii was also unavailable to travel north after arriving in camp late.

Walters said the star of his pack from Game One had stayed in Canberra for scans on a knee injury, but he has been given the all clear to play on Wednesday.
