FOOTBALL: Paris Saint-Germain has stepped up its bid to sign Argentine superstar Lionel Messi, according to Spanish newspaper Marca.

The 29-year-old is yet to agree to a new contract with Barcelona past 2018, which has prompted PSG director of football and former Barca great Patrick Kluivert to contact Messi's father and agent Jorge.

Messi reportedly turned down a new deal in July to stick with the La Liga heavyweight because he was unhappy with Barca's treatment of him during his tax fraud court case.

English giant Manchester City is believed to be one of many clubs keen on his services. But whoever gets him may be required to fork out at least $1.3 million a week.
