Fifita going for Myles after being named in NSW squad

SHARKS prop Andrew Fifita looks to be a 50-50 chance for a bench spot for Origin I in Sydney next Wednesday when the New South Wales team is named today.

But he said he would love nothing more than to have the chance to again lock horns with Queensland front-rower Nate Myles during this year's series.

The two had some memorable confrontations in the Sharks' 23-22 golden-point win over the Titans on Saturday night, Fifita finishing with a game-high 181m from 21 runs, as well as 37 tackles and six tackle busts.

"We had a few little conversations during the game, but it was good," Fifita told APN.

"At the end of the day, Nate is a real champion bloke and a really good player. He's a champion on the field and off the field.

"He's one of the hardest players I've come across, and also one of the dirtiest players I've come across."

While "experts" believe Fifita is a borderline chance of running out at ANZ Stadium next Wednesday night, he said he would not let his state down if chosen.

The 25-year-old has made more tackle-busts than any other forward this season, and has not committed a turnover in eight games.

"I feel like I'm in career-best form," he said.

It has been an impressive turnaround off the field for Fifita in the past 12 months, after he struggled with depression last year following a failed attempt to sign with the Bulldogs.

"I've still got it today. Family has been the main thing, and having really close friends," he said.
