A PRISON escapee serving time for a series of Coffs Harbour robberies has been captured on the Central Coast after more than two weeks on the run.

Christopher Gibbs, 30, was arrested at the Erina shopping centre this afternoon after a plain clothes police officer spotted him and called for back-up.

Gibbs is serving a seven year sentence for the armed hold ups of six Mid North Coast banks including the ANZ on Harbour Drive and the BCU branches at Urunga and Nambucca.

He was reported missing from the Goulburn prison on Tuesday, April 2 and allegedly led police on a chase through southern NSW and Victoria before ending up on the Central Coast.

He will spend tonight at the Gosford watch house before fronting court tomorrow.
