THE Invictus Games, a worldwide sporting competition for wounded defence force veterans, will come to Sydney in 2018.
Prince Harry announced on Saturday afternoon that Sydney would be the home of the 2018 games.
In a video message filmed at Australia House in London, the Invictus Games Foundation patron said the organisation wanted to go somewhere that was sports-mad.
"It was an easy decision really - the 2018 Invictus Games are coming to Sydney," Prince Harry said.
More than 500 competitors are expected to take part in the Sydney games.
In a statement, paracanoeist and Invictus Games medallist Curtis McGrath said he couldn't wait for the games to come to Australia.
"You can't underestimate the difference these Games can make to someone's life," he said.
"Just having the chance to stand alongside fellow wounded, injured and sick Servicemen and women and once again represent your country is something I never take for granted."
Mr McGrath, who also won a gold medal at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio, lost both his legs while serving on deployment in Afghanistan for the Australian Army.
