MY KITCHEN Rules guest judge Colin Fassnidge is taking a front seat on the reality cooking show.
Sunday's special two-hour episode saw Fassnidge's Surry Hills restaurant 4 Fourteen turn into Comeback Kitchen, where four of the eliminated teams competed for a spot back in the competition.
The Irish-born chef joined the hit show's guest judging panel, alongside Guy Grossi, Karen Martini and Liz Egan, this year.
Despite seeing bits of the previous series, Fassnidge said nothing could prepare him for being on the show. "I remember when I did my first critique," he said.
"You get together what you're going to say, work it out in your head and then you walk out there and there's a crew of 100 people.
"These (contestants) are real people who bank everything on it. That's when I went 'mate you need to wake up a bit'."
Fassnidge has become known for his brutally honest critiques and tough scoring. Sunshine Coast siblings Jake and Elle Harrison have received the highest score from him to date: an eight out of 10.
"People go 'oh well they're home cooks you should take it easy'. I think that's a bit of a disservice to home cooks," he said.
"I know a lot of great home cooks and I know a lot of bad chefs, so I'm not going to put down Australia's home cooks.
"I'm there to judge what's on the plate."
With 30 chefs answering to him, Fassnidge said the restaurant industry was a pressure-cooker environment that he didn't expect every MKR team to go into after the show.
"I work in a kitchen; it's hot, sweaty, angry, but it's a good career if you love it," he said.
"I love it. If you love it then do it, but don't go in chasing glory and fame."
This Sunday sees the eliminated teams continue to battle for a spot back in the competition under Fassnidge's supervision at 4 Fourteen.
