SOME local preschoolers are proving you're never too young to cook as they become MiniChef extraordinaires.
A four-week MiniChef cooking program being offered by Blue Hills College is providing budding chefs with a taste of what is required to prepare a meal.

Project co-ordinator and pre-kindy teacher at the college, Julie Jackson, said the classes provide a great introduction to cooking.
Once a week Mrs Jackson and volunteers guide the children through the process of cooking a meal based on that week's theme.
The theme for this week's class was China with children learning to cook fried rice as part of the lesson.
The weekly theme also extends to story time and craft.
The classes, held at the end of term two, are attended by 120 children from local preschools including Goodstart Early Learning Goonellabah, Richmond Hill Community Preschool, Alstonville Nestle In, Goon- ellabah Nestle In, Goonellabah Preschool, East Lismore Community Preschool, and Wollongbar Community Preschool.
This is the third year the MiniChef program has been offered.
Mrs Jackson said it provides children with basic cooking skills at the same time as boosting confidence and self-esteem.
Mrs Jackson said the program also helps prepare the kids for "big school" by allowing them to become familiar with the college.
After completing the program, the children will attend a graduation night on Thursday, June 27 when they will awarded for their efforts and get to show their parents what they've been up to.
A group of MiniChefs from Wollongbar Community Preschool were yesterday taking on the challenge.
Chopping, mixing, whisking and frying, the children even looked the part in their MiniChef hats and aprons.
Harvey Moore, 5, said he was enjoying being able to make food all on his own and couldn't wait to tell his mum all about it.
He did however say that he might leave the daily dinner cooking to her.
Byron Leard, 4, was also having a lot of fun making the fried rice but said the best part about the weekly class was getting to eat the food.
- Cooked rice
- Bacon, finely diced
- Shallots, finely diced
- Corn kernels
- Peas or beans, chopped
- Carrot, finely diced
- 2 tbsp light soy sauce
- 2 eggs, lightly beaten
- Heat oil in frying pan.
- Add bacon, shallots, corn, peas/beans, and carrots and stir until lightly cooked.
- Add rice. Cook for about 5 minutes. Stir once a minute.
- Add soy sauce, cook for another 2 minutes.
- Move ingredients over to one side pour in egg and let cook for 30 seconds. With fork, scramble and then combine through rest of rice.
