CHRISTIAN groups are hailing Clive Palmer as the potential saviour of traditional marriage.

The Australian Christian Lobby's Lyle Shelton has urged all its members to "pray for Clive Palmer MP and ask that God would grant him wisdom through the marriage debate".

With Opposition Leader Bill Shorten's private bill on marriage equality introduced in Parliament on Monday, they argue "the marriage debate kicked off in earnest".

They then asked once Clive has been "prayed for" for people to contact his office and let him know "you'd like him to vote to preserve marriage".

"Clive Palmer needs to hear from you right now.  Make no mistake about that.  This is not a false alarm."

"If you can do these two things, pray and make a phone call, we just might win this and preserve marriage for future generations," he writes.
