Powerhouse prop commits to Roosters

THE Sydney Roosters have staved off rival outfits to re-sign firebrand front-rower Dylan Napa on a two-year contract extension.

Clubs such as Newcastle, Brisbane and North Queensland tried to lure the 24-year-old away from Bondi, but in the end he chose to remain with the Tricolours.

The new deal means the 24-year-old, who has been touted as a future Queensland and Australia representative, will be tied to club until the end of 2019.

Napa's re-signing follows the recent retention of teammates Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, Sio Siua Taukeiaho, Joseph Manu and Connor Watson.

"I've been at the Roosters since I was 17,” Napa said.

"I came here as a kid and this is where I have developed as a football player, but more importantly as a person, so I'm happy with how it's all worked out and to agree to a new two-year extension.

"My football has progressed over the years with the Roosters, and the club is heading in an exciting direction, so I'm happy to know that I'll continue to be a part of it.”

Napa has played 80 NRL games for the Roosters since debuting in 2013.

In addition to club duties, he's also played two games for the Australian PM's XIII and three Tests for the Cook Islands.

Roosters coach Trent Robinson expressed his delight in being able to retain Napa despite interest from rival clubs.

"Dylan is a fierce competitor and a highly valued contributor to our team,” Robinson said.

"Dylan holds himself accountable and has worked hard to cement his position as a leader in our pack, and I'm looking forward to watching his development in the coming seasons.”
