Poll shows 7% swing against Abbott Government

A NEW poll has revealed the Abbott Government is facing a loss of 36 seats at the next election, meaning it would not have a majority and fuelling speculation Tony Abbott's days are numbered.

The Fairfax-Ipsos poll was held on the weekend and released on Monday and revealed a swing of more than 7% against the Coalition.

The Coalition faces the very real prospect of being punted from office after only one term in government.

The poll also revealed 69% of those surveyed supported marriage equality and nearly 60% of voters said the government's global warming policy did not go far enough.

The poll also revealed Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull was extremely popular with the public.

Mr Turnbull has an 18-point lead over Foreign Affairs Minister Julie Bishop, a 26-point lead over Mr Abbott and a 36-point lead over Social Services Minister Scott Morrison.
