POLICE have confirmed the Byron Bay man who died in a fatal motorbike crash last Friday was Peter Dunshea.
Mr Dunshea, 69, was an experienced rider who police said had been riding for most of his life.
Earlier this week, Tweed Traffic and Highway Patrol Sergeant Chad George said Mr Dunshea was travelling north on Tweed Valley Way, Crabbes Creek when he turned at a left-hand bend.
"For unknown reasons he crossed over to the other side of the road and was ejected from the bike," he said.
"He rolled down an embankment and hit a tree."
It is unknown if Mr Dunshea suffered a heart attack or what caused him to crash, Serg George said.
Tributes for the much-loved man are being posted on social media sites.
