Police still hunting four Acmena detainees

MONDAY - 3.30PM: THE names of three of the four detainess who escaped custody from the Acmena Juvenile Justice Centre on Sunday afternoon have been released.

The identity of the 15 year-old cannot be revealed for legal reasons but he has been described as being of Caucasian appearance, approximately 150cm to 155cm tall, with thin build and brown hair.

The other three members of the quartet are:

  • Hakeem Cohen, aged 18, is described as being of Aboriginal / Torres Strait Islander appearance, between 150cm and 160cm tall, with medium build and black hair.
  • Ezra Williams, aged 18, is described as being of Aboriginal / Torres Strait Islander appearance, between 160cm and 170cm tall, with medium build and brown hair.
  • Braiden Tighe, aged 18, is described as being of Aboriginal / Torres Strait Islander appearance, between 165cm and 170cm tall, with medium build and black hair.

Police are conducting inquiries and continuing an extensive search for the group. It's believed they may be headed towards the Casino area.

MONDAY - 7.30AM: POLICE are still searching for four detainees who escaped custody after allegedly stealing the Juvenile Justice van they were being transported in.

About 4.30pm yesterday, police were called to North St at Grafton after the teenagers allegedly threatened two security officers with a knife. The two officers, along with one detainee, got out of the van and were not injured.

Four teenagers, three aged 18 and one 15-year-old, remained in the van and left the scene. Officers from Coffs/Clarence Local Area Command attended and began a search for the group.

The van was located a short time ago on Redgum Rd; however, they have not been located. Police are appealing for public assistance to locate the teens.

The first is described as being of Aboriginal / Torres Strait Islander appearance, between 165cm and 170cm tall, with medium build and black hair.

The second is described as being of Aboriginal / Torres Strait Islander appearance, between 150cm and 160cm tall, with medium build and black hair.

The third is described as being of Aboriginal / Torres Strait Islander appearance, between 160cm and 170cm tall, with medium build and black hair.

All three are aged 18.

The fourth teen is aged 15, is described as being of Caucasian appearance, approximately 150cm to 155cm tall, with thin build and brown hair.

Anyone who sees them is urged not to approach them but to contact Triple Zero '000' immediately.

SUNDAY - 5.00PM: POLICE are looking for four juvenile male detainees of Acmena Juvenile Justice Centre, at South Grafton, who have the left the custody of staff members while on a planned day trip out of the facility this afternoon.

The males are believed to be driving a HiAce bus.
