Police hunt for would-be kidnapper

POLICE are searching for a man who attempted to kidnap a woman in Brisbane on the weekend.

At about 9pm on Saturday, a woman was walking along Ayr Street at Annerly when a man approached her.

Police said the man spoke to the woman briefly before pushing something sharp into her side and directing her to get into a car parked nearby.

The woman told police she noticed another man standing beside the car.

The terrified woman only managed to escape when another car drove past.

Police said the woman wriggled free of the man's grasp and ran off.

The man fled on foot while his alleged accomplice fled in the waiting car.

The 36-year-old woman sustained a small scratch to her side.

Both men are described as having dark complexions and both were wearing jeans and hooded jumpers.

The first man was approximately 173cms tall, with a solid build and was clean shaven with a vertical scar on the lower left side of his cheek.

The vehicle is described as either white/silver or grey in colour, a squarish sedan, possibly a Nissan.

The attempted abduction comes after the man charged with raping and murdering Jill Meagher in Melbourne was committed to stand trial for the crimes.

Adrian Ernest Bayley is accused of grabbing Mrs Meagher in a Melbourne alleyway before raping her and dumping he body in a roadside shallow grave.
